Renovation 2014: Bathrooms – Day 7

The tub has become more of a storage location than a tub. Both of our garbage cans and one of our neighbor’s is full of all sorts of deconstruction material.

The saw box is covering a hole in the floor. Why is their a hole in the floor…

… holes in floors happen when the floor is so soft your foot goes through it…

On the bright side… there is now insulation between the bathroom and the nursery!

How Not To Use a Grocery List – 28 Goals – Week ?4

Grocery shopping? I’m game! Here’s how I did this week (March 15, 2014):

Please note that we have switched to using the Harris Teeter Express Lane as I can no longer drive or shop. Now what we are getting is exactly what is ordered unless they are out of stock.

What was in the bags?

  • Vinegar
  • Gatorade
  • Cherry Dr Pepper
  • Carrots
  • Onions
  • Cabbage
  • Ham Steaks
  • Miracle Whip

What was thrown out this week:

  • Playing Catch Up I cannot recall that far back

Anything from the garden?

  • Nothing… garden is done for this year

How much did I save this week?

$33.68… or 49.83% this week.

What did you throw out this week?

Renovation 2014: Bathrooms – Day 6

The entry way does not look too bad tonight!

The hallway shows promise…

… of a toilet in my craft room…

Mr. Wonderful and Papa took out the tile and cement/wire underfloor today. The remaining sub-floor is soft to walk on… hopefully we do not have to move the steel tub… which was put in place before the tiles were laid down. Why am I still being surprised at this point?

Hopefully the floor underneath will be sound enough and we can just put the tiles back up around it? Maybe? Yikes!

What’s local to me in June?

What is local by you right now?

I had no idea, so I asked the internet what is local to my state and what should be freshest this month.

  • Basil
  • Blueberries
  • Cabbage
  • Chard
  • Cherries
  • Collard Greens
  • Corn
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Green Beans
  • Greens
  • Green Onions
  • Kale
  • Melons
  • Wild Mushrooms
  • Nectarines
  • Peaches┬áPeas
  • Pea┬áPods
  • Sweet Peppers
  • Radishes
  • Scallions
  • Summer Squash
  • Strawberries
  • Watermelons
  • Zucchini
  • Zucchini Blossoms

We do have quite a bit that are year-round foods. My assumption is that this is due to storage of root vegetables/pods and greenhouses.

  • Beets
  • Carrots
  • Garlic
  • Herbs
  • Leeks
  • Lettuce
  • Onions
  • Potatoes
  • Shallots
  • Sorrel
  • Spinach (We like to buy it frozen as we use it mostly in smoothies or soups)
  • Sweet Potatoes

Unfortunately I know that a lot of these are spring crop and we will not receive any in our CSA bags this year… perhaps the July crops will come in early!

What are your produce plans this month?

CSA Results: Week 2

This week’s CSA was a bit disappointing for all.. again.

I came home with lettuce and kale (which are both really great), but all of the spring crop is ruined from the rain, the heat and the constant temperature changes.

The farmer has told us he will call when the summer crops start producing and he will extend the season for as long as there are things that are growing.
