100 Foods: Rosemary

While decluttering my bookcase I discovered a hidden gem: Parragon Books’ “100 Best Health Foods.”

This book takes an interesting, in-depth look at 100 amazing foods and discusses their healthy properties. That said, Parragon does not bother to go into any sort of detail as to which seasons the foods are from or where they are from, which is great… as the publisher is in the UK and I am not.

Also the recipes in this book are not necessarily for the busy on-the-go people or they don’t really make the healthy food the stand out in the completed dish.

Rosemary

Rosemary… I love the smell of rosemary mixed with fresh baked bread. I am very happy to eat it… on its own… the smell mixed with mint is heavenly… ah… rosemary…

Rosemary is my favorite herb. It is so much my favorite that I have not one, but two different types of rosemary growing in my garden. (I might have two different types of sage plants as well… but that is only because they are so beautiful… but that is completely besides the point.)

Rosemary is supposed to be very high in iron, calcium and Vitamin B6… but you would have to eat quite a bit of it to gain anything more than the amazing flavor.

I like to sprinkle it over most meats while cooking (especially on a grill) right before it is finished cooking so that it lets out the beautiful flavor, but it does not disappear into the other flavors presented in the dish.
